Garcinia Cambogia With Green Coffee: Is the Pair Studied?

Quick answer

Garcinia cambogia with green coffee has no trial of the pair at SodaSlim's label amounts that we could find. Separate studies show small differences: 1.23 kg for green coffee extract and 0.88 kg for garcinia, the second with an interval touching zero. Adding two small results does not make a bigger one, and no trial tested SodaSlim.

The pair

Has garcinia cambogia with green coffee been studied together?

Not that we could find at the amounts on SodaSlim's label.

Searches for "garcinia cambogia and green coffee bean extract" and "garcinia cambogia coffee" turn up each ingredient on its own. The only multi-ingredient human trial we found used a six-ingredient product with 45 completers, so it cannot isolate any one part (Lopez 2013, multi-ingredient raspberry ketone). NIH says research on these products is thin (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).

Separate evidence

What do the separate studies show?

Each shows a small difference, and each used more than the capsule holds.

The 2020 green coffee analysis found 1.23 kg (Asbaghi 2020, green coffee meta), and the chlorogenic acid analysis used 500 mg or more a day, about eight times the capsule's 65 mg (500 / 65 is 7.7). The garcinia review found 0.88 kg (Onakpoya 2011, garcinia meta), and a 12-week trial of 1,500 mg HCA found no difference (Heymsfield 1998, garcinia RCT). The capsule's 65 mg is about 4% of that.

Claims vs evidence

Does a combination claim hold up?

Not yet, because a combination claim needs a combination trial.

The rows below set seven common claims against what sources say. No trial tested SodaSlim.

  1. Label claim“Supports Craving Control & Satiety*”No study we found tested this capsule or these five rows together on cravings or fullness; NIH says little is known about weight-loss supplements. (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss) (Wanders 2011, fibre and appetite)
  2. Label claim“Promotes Energy Production From Fat*”A 13-trial meta-analysis found caffeine 'might promote' weight loss but results varied widely, and none tested this capsule. (Tabrizi 2019, caffeine and weight) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss)
  3. Label claim“Helps Support Healthy Weight Management*”Single-ingredient meta-analyses found about 1.23 kg (green coffee), 0.88 kg (garcinia) and 0.04 kg (green tea outside Japan); no trial tested the mix. (Asbaghi 2020, green coffee meta) (Onakpoya 2011, garcinia meta)
  4. Common claim“Natural, so safe”NIH's LiverTox links both green tea extract and garcinia products to acute liver injury, and EFSA named no safe dose of EGCG supplements. (LiverTox, green tea) (LiverTox, Garcinia cambogia)
  5. Common claim“Targets stubborn fat”We found no source showing any supplement targets fat in one body area; the FTC's guide to weight-loss ads lists the promises that signal a false claim. (FTC, Truth Behind Weight Loss Ads) (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss)
  6. Label front“Metabolic & Appetite Support*”A starred line. A supplement may describe an effect on normal body structure or function, but it must carry the FDA disclaimer; naming a disease would make it a drug claim. (FDA structure/function claims) (FDA supplement labeling guide)
  7. Common question“Can it replace a medicine?”No. Do not stop or change a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. A clinician can discuss prescription options and who they are for. (NIDDK, Prescription weight medications) (FDA 101 supplements)

Claims as commonly marketed for capsules like this, and the lines on the label front (SodaSlim label). Health claims in ads need competent and reliable scientific evidence (FTC health products guidance).

Care

What should you check before combining them?

Check caffeine, medicines and the liver, because both ingredients carry cautions.

Garcinia products have liver injury reports in NIH sources, and the capsule has at least 138 mg of caffeine. Keep taking prescribed medicine; chest pain, fainting or trouble breathing: 911. See the ingredients page and liver safety guide. If you still want to look, the checkout lists the packs.

FAQ

SodaSlim questions people ask

Can you take garcinia cambogia and green coffee together?

SodaSlim puts both in one capsule, and we found no trial of the pair. Whether it suits you depends on your medicines, liver and caffeine intake. Ask a doctor or pharmacist first.

Do two ingredients work better than one?

We found no source showing that. Two small, uncertain results are not a larger one, and no trial tested SodaSlim or this five-row mix.

Is garcinia cambogia coffee a drink?

Searches use that phrase, but SodaSlim is a capsule with no drink, carbonation or brewing. We cover no coffee product that is sold as a drink.
