How it works
How does SodaSlim work? What the capsule holds and what studies found
How SodaSlim works is not known, because no study has tested the capsule. It is a dietary supplement with five printed rows: four at 130 mg and caffeine at 138 mg, so at least 138 mg of caffeine a capsule. The label makes starred structure claims only, and studies of single ingredients found small, uneven differences.

The basics
What is SodaSlim, and what does Soda Slim do?
SodaSlim is a dietary supplement sold as vegetable capsules, 30 to a bottle, and what it does in the body has not been tested. It is a capsule, not a soda, a can, a gummy or a drink.
The front of the bottle says "Metabolic & Appetite Support*" and carries three more starred lines. The star leads to the FDA statement that these words have not been evaluated (SodaSlim label). Under US rules a supplement may describe an effect on the normal structure or function of the body, but it may not claim to treat a disease (FDA structure/function claims).

The mechanism
How does SodaSlim work in the body?
The label gives no mechanism, so nobody can state how SodaSlim works. What it prints is a list of five ingredients and an amount for each.
Each row has its own reason to be there, and the reasons come from ingredient research, not from the product. Caffeine is a stimulant. Green coffee extract is sold for chlorogenic acids, garcinia for HCA, green tea for catechins such as EGCG. Raspberry ketone is a flavor compound, and its story rests on animal work. No source we found tests this five-row mix (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss).
- The capsule holds 658 mg of extract in all (4 x 130 + 138).
- The caffeine row is 138 mg, so a capsule has at least 138 mg of caffeine.
- One capsule a day is the only direction printed.
The five rows
What does each SodaSlim row do?
Each row is an ingredient with a long history of marketing and a thin record of human trials. Tap a row to see what the label prints and what we found.
Green coffee at 50% chlorogenic acids is about 65 mg (130 x 50%). Garcinia at 50% HCA is about 65 mg. Green tea at 45% EGCG is about 58 mg, and its caffeine is under 4 mg (130 x under 3%).

A simple picture of where energy comes from. It describes the body, not the capsule.
Row 1 of 5 · 130 mg per capsule
Green coffee bean extract
An extract of unroasted coffee seeds; the label says 50% chlorogenic acids, so 130 mg of extract holds about 65 mg of them (130 x 50%). Sold as a weight-management ingredient.
- Studied at
- Pooled trials of green coffee extract; one review of chlorogenic acid at 500 mg a day or more
- Evidence
- Small and uncertain for weight, appetite or metabolism
- Watch for
- Extra caffeine not stated
Row 2 of 5 · 130 mg per capsule
Raspberry ketone
A compound that gives red raspberries their smell, usually made synthetically for supplements; the label does not say if this one is natural or synthetic. Sold as a fat-burning ingredient.
- Studied at
- A mouse study (0.5% to 2% of the diet, 10 weeks); one human trial of a six-ingredient product
- Evidence
- None shown for weight, appetite or metabolism
- Watch for
- No human safety data found
Row 3 of 5 · 130 mg per capsule
Garcinia extract (HCA)
An extract of a tropical fruit rind; HCA stands for hydroxycitric acid, and at 50% the 130 mg row holds about 65 mg of it (130 x 50%). Sold as an appetite and fat ingredient.
- Studied at
- A 1998 JAMA trial (1,500 mg HCA a day, 12 weeks, 135 people); a 2011 meta-analysis
- Evidence
- Very little for weight, appetite or metabolism
- Watch for
- Liver injury reports
Row 4 of 5 · 138 mg per capsule
Caffeine anhydrous
Caffeine in dry, concentrated form. The label says 'Contains caffeine'; the capsule holds at least 138 mg, plus a little more from the tea row (under 3% of 130 mg, so under 4 mg) and whatever the coffee row holds. Sold for energy.
- Studied at
- FDA's 400 mg a day reference for healthy adults; ACOG's 200 mg a day pregnancy limit; a meta-analysis of 13 trials
- Evidence
- Small and uncertain for weight, appetite or metabolism
- Watch for
- Jitters, sleep, pregnancy
Row 5 of 5 · 130 mg per capsule
Green tea extract (EGCG)
A concentrated extract of tea leaf; 45% EGCG means about 58 mg of EGCG in the 130 mg row (130 x 45%). Sold as a metabolism ingredient.
- Studied at
- Cochrane review of green tea and weight; EFSA's 800 mg a day EGCG concern level
- Evidence
- Very little for weight, appetite or metabolism
- Watch for
- Liver injury reports; medicine interactions
Amounts are on the supplement facts page; each ingredient has a profile on the ingredients page.
The evidence
Does SodaSlim work? What studies found about its ingredients
No one knows if SodaSlim works, because no trial tested it. Studies of single ingredients found small or uncertain differences, and most used amounts unlike the label.
| Ingredient | Who and what | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Green coffee extract | A 2020 meta-analysis of 15 trials, 897 people (Asbaghi 2020, green coffee meta) | 1.23 kg difference; no dose-response with chlorogenic acid |
| Garcinia (HCA) | 135 people, 1,500 mg HCA, 12 weeks (Heymsfield 1998, garcinia RCT) | No difference from placebo; the label has about 65 mg |
| Green tea | A Cochrane review, trials outside Japan (Jurgens 2012, Cochrane green tea) | 0.04 kg, "not likely clinically important" |
| Caffeine | A 2019 review of 13 trials, 606 people (Tabrizi 2019, caffeine and weight) | Very inconsistent results; the authors wrote that caffeine "might promote" weight loss |
| Raspberry ketone | Mice fed 0.5% to 2% of the diet for 10 weeks (Morimoto 2005, raspberry ketone mice) | We found no human trial of the ketone alone |

What does "metabolic" mean on the SodaSlim label?
On the label, "metabolic" is part of the starred line “Metabolic & Appetite Support*”, and it is not a measured result. The star leads to the FDA disclaimer.
Metabolism is the set of body processes that turn food into energy. The label does not say which one it means, or how much. The other lines are “Supports Craving Control & Satiety*”, “Promotes Energy Production From Fat*” and “Helps Support Healthy Weight Management*”. We found no trial that tests any of them on this capsule.
The FTC says a health claim in an ad needs reliable scientific evidence behind it, and that testimonials are not proof (FTC health products guidance).
Habits with stronger support are on the healthy weight basics page.
Day to day
How is SodaSlim taken day to day?
The label says to take one capsule daily, for adults 18 and over, with no time of day and no food or water instruction.
- Read the label and your medicine list first.
- Add the capsule's 138 mg to your coffee and tea.
- Keep a log of sleep, jitters and stomach upset.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take any prescription medicine, a thyroid, blood pressure, heart-rhythm, anxiety, depression, sleep or diabetes medicine, or if you have liver disease, a heart condition or high blood pressure: caffeine and green tea extract can interact with medicines (NCCIH using supplements wisely). Not for under 18, pregnant or nursing (label). Chest pain, fainting, a racing heart that will not settle or trouble breathing: call 911.
Full directions are on the how to use page.
Before you decide
Is SodaSlim right for you?
Only you and a clinician can answer that, and the label points the same way: consult a physician before use, especially with a medication or a medical condition.
Keep taking prescribed medicine. Liver injury has been reported with some garcinia and concentrated green tea products, mostly at larger amounts than a single capsule; nothing says SodaSlim was involved (LiverTox, Garcinia cambogia) (LiverTox, green tea). Dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain means stop and get care.

SodaSlim questions people ask
How does SodaSlim work?
Nobody can say, because no study has tested the capsule. The label prints five ingredients and their amounts, and each has its own research record. That research is small, short or mixed. The label claims are starred structure lines, not results.
What does Soda Slim do for the body?
We found no source that shows what the capsule does. It supplies at least 138 mg of caffeine, a stimulant, plus four plant or flavor extracts at 130 mg each. Any effect on weight or appetite is unproven for this product.
What does "metabolic support" mean on the bottle?
It is the start of a starred marketing line on the front, and it is not a measured result. The star leads to the FDA statement that the claim was not evaluated. The label does not say which body process is meant.
Does the caffeine in SodaSlim matter?
Yes. The caffeine row is 138 mg, about a third of FDA's 400 mg a day reference for healthy adults, before any coffee or tea. The coffee row may add more, and the label does not say how much.
Is SodaSlim a soda or a drink?
No. It is a vegetable capsule, 30 to a bottle, with no carbonation and no liquid. Soda is only part of the brand name.
Who should check with a doctor before using SodaSlim?
Anyone on a prescription medicine, or with heart, blood pressure, liver, thyroid, diabetes, anxiety or sleep problems. The label also says not for under 18, pregnant or nursing, and to consult a physician before use.
