The formula

SodaSlim formula: label amounts next to the doses studies used

Quick answer

The SodaSlim formula is five printed rows totaling 658 mg a capsule: four at 130 mg and caffeine at 138 mg. Next to studied doses, the active parts are small: about 65 mg of chlorogenic acids against 500 mg or more, and about 65 mg of HCA against 1,500 mg. No trial tested the formula itself.

The mix

What is in the SodaSlim formula?

The SodaSlim formula is five extracts in one vegetable capsule: green coffee bean, raspberry ketone, garcinia, caffeine anhydrous and green tea, 658 mg in all.

The front calls it “Metabolic & Appetite Support*”, a starred line that leads to the FDA statement that it has not been evaluated (SodaSlim label). A supplement may describe an effect on body structure or function, and it may not claim to treat a disease (FDA structure/function claims). We found no trial that tested this formula or this five-row mix.

The biggest row

Is 138 mg of caffeine in SodaSlim a lot?

It is a moderate amount for one capsule and about 35% of a day's reference (138 / 400), but it is the only row that is a certain, known stimulant dose.

FDA's reference for healthy adults is 400 mg a day, counting every drink and supplement (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine). EFSA gives 200 mg as a single dose, and says about 100 mg can affect sleep in some people (EFSA, caffeine safe intakes). One capsule is 138 mg, which is 69% of 200 mg. The coffee row may add caffeine that the label does not state, so the capsule has at least 138 mg. The green tea row is under 3% caffeine, under 4 mg (130 x under 3%).

A 2019 review of 13 trials (606 people) found very inconsistent results, and its authors wrote that caffeine "might promote" weight loss (Tabrizi 2019, caffeine and weight). Add your own drinks in the caffeine budget.

Label vs research

How do the SodaSlim label amounts compare with studied doses?

For green coffee and garcinia, the active part of a capsule is far below the doses that studies used; for green tea, it is well below a level EFSA flagged.

Chlorogenic acids are about 65 mg, which is 13% of the 500 mg a day used in pooled trials. HCA is about 65 mg against 1,500 mg, about 4%. EGCG is about 58 mg against EFSA's 800 mg a day concern level, about one fourteenth. Raspberry ketone has no human trial of the ketone alone to compare. The table gives the studies and the cautions for each row.

IngredientLabel amount per capsuleAmount used in researchWhat the studies foundMain caution
Green Coffee130 mgPooled trials of green coffee extract; one review of chlorogenic acid at 500 mg a day or more (Onakpoya 2011, green coffee review) (Asbaghi 2020, green coffee meta)A 2011 review pooled three trials and found a difference of 2.47 kg, but all had a high risk of bias and the authors called the quality poor. A 2020 meta-analysis of 15 trials (897 people) found 1.23 kg with no clear link between chlorogenic acid dose and the result. A 2023 review of trials using 500 mg a day or more of chlorogenic acid found 1.30 kg; the label's row is about 65 mg, roughly one eighth of that. One of the best-known green coffee trials was retracted in 2014, and the FTC took action in the same year over an ad that leaned on it.Green coffee extract is not free of caffeine, and the label does not say how much caffeine this row adds; it counts on top of the 138 mg row. Too much caffeine can cause jitters, a racing heart and poor sleep; ask a clinician if you take any medicine.
Raspberry Ketone130 mgA mouse study (0.5% to 2% of the diet, 10 weeks); one human trial of a six-ingredient product (Morimoto 2005, raspberry ketone mice) (Lopez 2013, multi-ingredient raspberry ketone)The idea comes from a 2005 mouse study in which raspberry ketone was mixed into a high-fat diet at 0.5% to 2% of the feed for 10 weeks. The only human trial we found tested a six-ingredient product in 45 completers, so it cannot say what the ketone did alone. The NIH fact sheet says there is insufficient research on it in people. No safety trial of this amount in people was found. Because the evidence is missing, treat any claim about it with care and ask a clinician if you take medicines or have a medical condition.
Garcinia130 mgA 1998 JAMA trial (1,500 mg HCA a day, 12 weeks, 135 people); a 2011 meta-analysis (Heymsfield 1998, garcinia RCT) (Onakpoya 2011, garcinia meta)A 12-week JAMA trial gave 1,500 mg of HCA a day to 135 people and found no difference from placebo. A 2011 meta-analysis found a 0.88 kg difference whose range touched zero, and stomach events were twice as common in one study. The label's row holds about 65 mg of HCA. NIH's LiverTox lists garcinia products as linked to acute liver injury, and a 2025 review counted more than 200 liver adverse events, including one death and nine transplants.Garcinia products have been linked to acute liver injury, sometimes severe. Stop and get care if you have dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain, and tell your clinician if you have liver disease.
Caffeine138 mgFDA's 400 mg a day reference for healthy adults; ACOG's 200 mg a day pregnancy limit; a meta-analysis of 13 trials (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine) (EFSA, caffeine safe intakes)FDA says 400 mg of caffeine a day is not generally associated with dangerous effects in healthy adults, about two to three 12-ounce cups of coffee, and that caffeine in supplements counts toward that total. EFSA says single doses of 200 mg and 400 mg a day are the levels where it saw no safety concern for adults, and about 100 mg may affect sleep for some people. A 2019 meta-analysis of 13 trials (606 people) found caffeine 'might promote' weight loss, but the results varied widely between studies. One capsule is 138 mg, so coffee, tea and energy drinks on top add up quickly.Caffeine can cause jitters, a faster heartbeat, stomach upset and poor sleep, and the label says not for people under 18 or pregnant or nursing. ACOG advises under 200 mg a day in pregnancy. Use the caffeine budget tool on this site to add up your day.
Green Tea130 mgCochrane review of green tea and weight; EFSA's 800 mg a day EGCG concern level (Jurgens 2012, Cochrane green tea) (EFSA 2018, green tea catechins)The Cochrane review of green tea for weight loss found studies outside Japan averaged a 0.04 kg difference, which it called not likely to be clinically important. NCCIH says green tea may have a modest effect on body weight. The label's EGCG is about 58 mg; EFSA raised a safety concern about EGCG supplements at 800 mg a day, about 14 times that, and said it could not name a safe dose. NIH's LiverTox lists green tea extract as linked to acute liver injury, including liver failure and transplants.Green tea extract has been linked to liver injury, including serious cases, mostly at higher doses and in concentrated extracts. It can also interact with some medicines. Stop and get care for dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain.

The claim lines

Does the formula support metabolism and appetite?

No source we found shows that it does. The lines on the front, “Supports Craving Control & Satiety*” and “Promotes Energy Production From Fat*”, are marketing claims, not results.

NIH notes that little is known about weight-loss supplements, and that raspberry ketone has been studied only in combination (NIH ODS, Dietary Supplements for Weight Loss). The FTC requires reliable scientific evidence for health claims in ads (FTC health products guidance). In 2014 it ordered proof from an advertiser who had leaned on a flawed green coffee trial (FTC 2014, green coffee ad case).

Keep taking prescribed medicine, and ask a clinician before use: the label says not for under 18, pregnant or nursing. Liver injury has been reported with garcinia and concentrated green tea products (LiverTox, Garcinia cambogia) (LiverTox, green tea); dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, or belly pain means stop and get care. Read the claims page, then the how it works page.

FAQ

SodaSlim questions people ask

What is the SodaSlim formula made of?

Five printed rows per capsule: green coffee bean extract 130 mg, raspberry ketone 130 mg, garcinia extract 130 mg, caffeine anhydrous 138 mg and green tea extract 130 mg, in a hypromellose shell. Together they total 658 mg.

Is the SodaSlim formula clinically tested?

No. We found no trial of SodaSlim or of this five-row mix. Studies of single ingredients exist, and they were small, short or inconsistent. Their doses mostly differ from the label.

Why does the SodaSlim label amount differ from studied doses?

The label prints the extract weight, and the active part is a percentage of it. Chlorogenic acids and HCA are about 65 mg each, far below the 500 mg and 1,500 mg used in studies.

Does 138 mg of caffeine count toward my daily limit?

Yes. It counts like coffee or tea. FDA's adult reference is 400 mg a day, so one capsule leaves about 262 mg for drinks (400 - 138), before any caffeine the coffee row adds.

Does the SodaSlim formula support healthy weight management?

The front line says “Helps Support Healthy Weight Management*”, with a star leading to the FDA disclaimer. We found no trial showing the capsule does this, so treat it as a label claim.

Can the SodaSlim formula change over time?

The label we read is the only formula we can describe. The seller can change amounts, so compare your own bottle's panel with the supplement facts page before use.
