How Much Caffeine Per Day: The FDA 400 mg Reference
How much caffeine per day is too much depends on you, but FDA's reference for healthy adults is 400 mg a day. EFSA gives 200 mg for a single dose and 100 mg as an amount that can affect sleep in some people. A SodaSlim capsule has at least 138 mg of caffeine, about a third of 400 mg.

The reference
How much caffeine per day is okay for adults?
FDA cites 400 mg a day as an amount not generally linked to dangerous effects in healthy adults. That is about two to three 12-ounce cups of coffee, as the source says (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine).
The FDA page also warns that supplements can contain caffeine, and that toxic effects appear near 1,200 mg taken quickly. Sensitivity varies a lot: some people feel jittery well below 400 mg, and body size, medicines and pregnancy change the picture.

What do EFSA and ACOG say about caffeine limits?
EFSA uses 200 mg as a single-dose figure and 400 mg a day for adults, and it says about 100 mg can affect sleep for some people (EFSA, caffeine safe intakes).
For pregnancy, EFSA says 200 mg a day, and ACOG advises under 200 mg a day (ACOG, caffeine in pregnancy). The SodaSlim label says not for pregnant or nursing mothers.
| Reference | Amount | A 138 mg capsule is |
|---|---|---|
| FDA, healthy adults a day | 400 mg | About 35% (138 / 400) |
| EFSA, single dose | 200 mg | About 69% (138 / 200) |
| EFSA, may affect sleep | 100 mg | Above it (138 vs 100) |
| ACOG, pregnancy a day | Under 200 mg | About 69% (138 / 200) |

How much caffeine per day for weight loss?
There is no daily amount shown to produce weight loss. A 2019 meta-analysis of 13 trials and 606 people was very inconsistent and said only that caffeine "might promote" it (Tabrizi 2019, caffeine and weight).
So the useful question is not how much to take, but how much you already have. Tap the drinks below to build your day; the capsule's 138 mg is already in the cup.
138 mg of 400 mg
Just the capsule: 138 mg from the label's caffeine row.

Typical caffeine per serving
| Drink | Serving | Caffeine |
|---|---|---|
| Espresso shot | 60 ml | 80 mg |
| Filter coffee | 200 ml | 90 mg |
| Black tea | 220 ml | 50 mg |
| Green tea | 12 oz | 37 mg |
| Cola | 355 ml can | 40 mg |
| Energy drink | 250 ml can | 80 mg |
The 138 mg is the caffeine row on the SodaSlim label (SodaSlim label); the coffee and tea rows may add some, and the label does not say how much. 200 mg a day is the ACOG pregnancy reference (ACOG, caffeine in pregnancy); 400 mg a day is the FDA general adult reference, about two to three 12-ounce cups of coffee (FDA, Spilling the Beans caffeine). Drink amounts are typical and vary by brand. This is a counting aid, not medical advice: ask a clinician about your own limit.

Where does a SodaSlim capsule fit in your day?
It takes up at least 138 mg of the budget before any coffee or tea, and the coffee row's own caffeine is not stated.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first if you take medicine, or have a heart condition, high blood pressure, anxiety or sleep trouble; caffeine and green tea extract can interact with medicines. Keep taking prescribed medicine. Chest pain, fainting, a racing heart that will not settle or trouble breathing: call 911. The caffeine budget guide and SodaSlim with coffee explain more.

FAQ
SodaSlim questions people ask
Is 400 mg of caffeine a lot?
It is FDA's reference for healthy adults, about two to three 12-ounce cups of coffee as the source says. Many people feel effects well below it, so it is a ceiling for the average adult, not a target.
Does caffeine count if it comes from a supplement?
Yes. FDA notes that supplements can contain caffeine, and the total from drinks and capsules together is what counts against the reference.
Can caffeine hurt sleep?
It can. EFSA says about 100 mg can affect sleep in some people. Timing and sensitivity matter, so a lighter day total may help if sleep suffers.
